JOB SUMMARY
The Site Fabrication Supervisor, Exhibits & Environments is responsible for leading a team of fabricators providing creative and innovative direction in executing all aspects of a project for our Exhibits and Environments division. This individual is responsible for overall project execution, coordination, and control, while providing technical and fabrication direction and ensuring quality standards are met. Our Site Fabrication Supervisors s, the subject matter experts, the builders, the installers, and the quality control team.
Our team of Fabricators build custom stage and exhibit components in house using the latest techniques coupled with superior craftsmanship. Our team members get their hands dirty every day, physically turning raw materials into beautiful scenic elements. This is our magic workshop.the place where plans, sketches, and renderings emerge as full-scale project components, ready for installation.
The ideal candidate has the ability to come up with creative solutions, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and most of all, be truly passionate about museums and events. This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Management:
- Lead a diverse team of fabrication professionals including a crew of independent contractor/freelance talent to bring our clients’ visions to life.
- Main point of contract for the Exhibits and Environments division as it relates to the site installation and supervision process as a whole and for departmental specific requests.
- Manage multiple projects with competing needs as seen fit and in accordance with budget, timeline, and skill sets.
- Assist with developing, implementing, and analyzing all project plans and schedules to comply with budgets and scheduling.
- Have regular check-in meetings with Manufacturing Manager to discuss project progress, variance reports, obstacles, and solutions to ensure deadlines are met.
- Quality control of all items leaving shop.
- Oversee and ensure updates to timelines and fabrication schedules, design, drafting, purchasing, fabrication (both in house and subcontract), graphic production, AV integration, client inspections, shipping and field services (including installation and dismantle).
- Evaluate and review drafted and engineered drawings for particularly complicated or sensitive pieces along with Manufacturing Manager, Project Director, Project Manager, and Technical Designer prior to release to the shop/external vendor for fabrication.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Manager and Project Manager to ensure that client macro goals can be aligned and integrated within individual project budgets and schedules without compromising efficiency or profit margins of the fabrication department as a whole.
- As required, supervise installation and dismantle for projects while also facilitating department coordination, resource management, timeline, and macro departmental goals.
- In conjunction with Manufacturing Manager, Project Director, and Project Manager oversight and standardization of all departmental documentation and record keeping of all current and past jobs to allow for seamless departmental hand-off at any given time.
- Review project evaluations and assessment of results with team related to budget and variance post-project delivery for the purposes of bettering future projects.
In Shop:
- Direct link between Technical Design, Project Management, and the Shop Floor teams.
- Final approver of all drawings before fabrication starts.
- Responsible for Material Take-offs, and responsible for the communication of those take-offs to acquire materials, hardware, etc.
- Responsible for creating and overseeing the overall plan for the project.
- Direct link to the Manufacturing Manager as far as reserving space on the shop floor for large assemblies, large-scale product deliveries, etc.
- Direct link between the Manufacturing Manager on big-picture workflow.
- Direct coordination with Logistics for trucking.
- Responsible for managing workflow using Project Manager software.
- Responsible for progress documentation and using SG standard communications tools to communicate progress.
- Responsible for approving full assembly before items are packaged for transport.
- Responsible for leading multiple projects at a time based on the size of projects and communicating time frames to the Project Team Members.
- Responsible for overseeing safe truck packs and the timely departure of truck
On Site:
- Responsible for Site Survey (as outlined in Site Survey protocol)
- Work with the Manufacturing Manager, Project Director and Project Manager to formulate installation timelines.
- Oversee all personnel on site, both Solomon Group craftsman as well as hired contactor/freelance labor.
- Oversee subcontractors on site, regarding schedule as well as quality.
- Coordinate with Project Management and other contractors on site to advocate for and achieve our timeframes.
- Responsible for all communication back to the Office and the Shop as far as progress and needs (i.e. daily email updates with pictures).
- Coordinates with Client-side superintendent and facility contacts as necessary to advocate for and achieve our timeframes.
- Be responsible for daily paperwork, including timesheets and daily reports.
- Responsible for photographic and written documentation, using standard SG communications protocols to communicate that documentation.
- Coordinate with our Operations Departments in determining and procuring equipment such as forklifts, scissor and boom lifts, etc., as well as overseeing all safety protocols including equipment usage on site.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Technical Designers to help formulate installation techniques on product that is being produced by our Fabrication Shop.
- Responsible for Materials Take-Offs for items that will be constructed on site.
- Coordinate with Project Manager and advocate for the safe transportation of finished product to site.
- Works with Project Manager to oversee successful completion of Punch List to facilitate close-out in a timely fashion.
IDEAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Understand client needs and vision to develop and deliver projects to exceed their objectives within budget and deadlines.
- Knowledge of floor operations such as CNC, welding, carpentry, and paint/scenic.
- Knowledge of project management and on-site techniques and tools.
- Exhibit (Tradeshow and Permanent Installation) Construction methods experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
- The ability to maintain an even temperament under tight deadlines.
- Outstanding troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to build strong relationships with clients and internal teams of Account Managers, Designers, Fabricators, and Installers.
- The willingness to learn new software and master equipment outside of scope of experience.
- Ability to travel as necessary.
- Knowledge of standard fabrication techniques and safe use of advanced fabrication tools and materials.
- Knowledge of special surfaces, materials, laminates, and veneers.
- Knowledge of the techniques for the proper application of specialty surfaces.
- Basic measuring, dimensioning, and efficient materials usage knowledge.
