The Product Safety Engineer will perform product testing and evaluation to product safety standards as well as coordinate and manage our NRTL relationships, safety lab quality checks, and safety engineer training. Responsibilities:

  • Perform testing per requirements detailed in international product safety standards and test procedures in a laboratory environment. Maintain a dynamic schedule of customer projects and assignments
  • Ensure the required quality checks are performed as needed and data from those checks are documented, analyzed and test instrumentation is verified
  • Participate in customer “kick-off” meetings to ensure the customer and lab are fully aware of the test plan, schedule and samples are properly configured for test
  • Provide support to customers regarding the application of standards, test procedures, and certification requirements
  • Work with account executives and inside sales teams to determine customer testing requirements and help develop test plans
  • Review test plans and test setups as needed prior to test
  • Communicate project status to lab management and to customers effectively
  • Prepare and review test reports and work with the NRTL on the certification effort
  • Ensure laboratory training plans are actively implemented and followed
  • Support teammates to continue improvement in processes and quality management
  • Keep abreast of the latest design theory, including detailed theoretical knowledge in relevant technical areas
  • Maintain knowledge of proper operational procedures of all relevant test equipment
  • Stay up to date with current product standards, test procedures, instrumentation, and technology by participating in internal training sessions, attending external seminars, and reading technical articles

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering discipline or at least 6 years of relevant testing experience
  • Expert level regulatory testing experience for the US, Canada and European Union; Other international markets is a plus
  • Expert level testing of technologies that include 61010-1, 62368-1, 60601-1
  • Good working knowledge of standard laboratory practices operating under ISO 17025 and ISO Guide 65
  • Customer focused, possess good communications skills, work well in a team environment, take direction positively, and contribute to the group
  • Self-directed, improvement minded, and an ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Communicate in a courteous and effective manner with internal and external customers in all circumstances including answering questions, relaying messages and providing information regarding standards, test procedures, technical recommendations for compliance and certification requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of and be proficient in the use of most MS Office applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate an expert knowledge in the use of relevant test equipment and automation software
