JOB SUMMARY:
This position serves as a senior Mathematical Statistician and principal adviser to OCOO's Office of the Director and other OCOO leaders on matters relating to quantitative methods, including the definition of problems, research design, data analysis, interpretation of results, and evaluation of programs and policy options. The Mathematical Statistician provides expert advice to public health experts, research scientists and administrators.

DUTIES:
As a Mathematical Statistician you will: Serve as liaison to CDC's Centers/Institute/Offices (CIOs) for research, evaluation, and analysis of administrative data related to CDC's operations (human resources, financial management, information technology, safety and security, facilities management, etc.). Solicit ideas and recommend analyses useful in conducting predictive data analytics and modeling with administrative data. Participate in the development and analysis of administrative data from OCOO. Assure that sound statistical and evaluation methodology are used. Summarize and analyze results from evaluation studies and prepares periodic reports on progress. Recommend policy formation and program development related to quantitative activities to ensure that sound research and statistical methods are used in the analysis and evaluation of research and demonstration projects. Plan and manage OCOO's methodological program to evaluate and improve existing data collection methodology, data quality and reliability, and statistical computation procedures for OCOO's operations (human resources, financial management, information technology, safety and security, facilities management, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualifications: Have a degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
or Have a combination of education and experience - at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience (or equivalent) that is directly related to the position and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position. This includes experience in 1) advising public health experts on the evaluation, analysis, and reporting of administrative data; 2) summarizing and analyzing results from evaluation studies; and 3) preparing and presenting data to customers. Documenting experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above
