As a Data Scientist at Micron, you will have the opportunity to employ techniques and theories drawn from areas of mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, and information technology to uncover patterns in data and build predictive models, expose key insights, and develop solutions.
You will collaborate with experienced Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Business Areas Engineers, performance engineers and UX teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis projects that will enable improvement of existing tools. In this position, you will help develop software programs, algorithms and/or automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. You will also be directly working with top leadership within the organization to assist in providing some of our most challenging data solutions.
Communication/Collaboration
Drives action through effective data presentation and data story telling. Recognize, identify, and raise awareness of data anomalies with the motivation of "who needs to know this now!" Collaborate with peers locally and worldwide to establish Best Known Methods (BKMs) for standards and efficiency.
Drive worldwide alignment in BKMs where possible and document
- Partner with engineering teams to understand their processes, tools and challenges, resolve most appropriate data collection/SPC solutions and receive buyoff for a given situation or change
- Drive needed improvements with IT/Host teams for data availability and data collection capability
- Connect with peers, partners, and leadership as appropriate with concise data summaries and explanations
- Partners with key customers to develop applications to continuously improve systems and applications in sphere of influence.
- Assesses impact to groups/area and strives for ultimately effective solutions
Project Management/Planning
Designs and coordinates projects with several different departments. Drives projects to ensure that the solutions are completed within the required timeframe. We expect team members to own and challenge assumptions and uses knowledge to drive improvements. Utilizes effective project management tools and methods (problem statement, glide path, risks, etc.)
Drives for a balance between tactical and pivotal initiatives
Ensures routine communication to partners of project status, roadblocks, and path to success. You will discover patterns in the data from which predictive models, impactful insights or solutions can be developed with the mentality of "how can I improve this?""
Technical/Data Science
Strong desire to drive industry leading data sciences methods in a data driven organization with a focus on research and development performing analysis and machine learning on terabytes and petabytes of diverse datasets. We need team members with strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience in areas like statistical modeling, feature extraction and analysis, supervised/unsupervised/semi-supervised machine learning, artificial intelligence are also desired.
Experienced in software development and data structures
- Strong understanding of Machine Learning algorithms
- Experienced in modern Machine Learning libraries and in working with high dimensional, skewed and frequently changing datasets
- Proficient in Python and/or R, in PySpark and/or SparkR, and in executing data extraction from variety of data sources (Teradata, Oracle, MS SQL, etc.)
- Experience in Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, and HBase
Education and Experience:
- Masters or PhD and several years of industry experience majoring Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, or equivalent
