External Job Description – Hardware Automation Engineer

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Function as the Automation Engineer and support the operation of all GMP and non-GMP control systems and other auxiliary equipment at the Devens Biologics facilities
2. Participate in cross functional teams to solve operational issues and develop lasting countermeasures.
3. Participate in smaller projects involving other automation engineers and contractors.
4. Provide troubleshooting and guidance support to automation systems in support of Manufacturing.
5. Provide on-call support for PAS, BAS & PLC control systems along with other team members.
6. Work with all departments and with all levels of the organization, specifically Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Manufacturing Operations.
7. Exercise sound judgment in making decisions and recommendations within generally defined practices and policies and notify management when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or its equivalent.
• Specific technical skills with including a minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology sector.
• Specific technical skills with including a minimum of 2-4 years’ experience working with control systems (DCS and PLC’s).
• Some understanding of S88, S95 and batch processing operations desirable.
• Understanding of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures.
• Experience managing schedule and resources on large projects
• Excellent communication skills including oral, written, and formal presentations.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot control systems from the field element up through operator interfaces and databases.
• Experience with Rockwell PLCs required.
• Experience with control system networking technologies and PC networking technologies preferred but not required.
