Material Handlers are essential to the printing process. They keep presses running by supplying raw materials, staging inventory, and other supporting tasks. MCC Algoma is in need of a dedicated individual on our B shift Inventory Control team. B Shift hours are 5PM-5AM Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and every other Saturday This position offers competitive pay, shift premium pay and full benefits package in addition to rewarding work.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Able to learn inventory process for staging areas, Work in Progress, dies, Kanban items, and finished goods.

  • Understand the Vision system and is able to perform relevant tasks within the Vision system.

  • Able to organize all staging areas of Work in Progress using information gathered from the vision system schedules.

  • Able to supply production cells with pallets of raw material and/or WIP for the current job in queue using forklifts and powered or manual pallet jacks.

  • Able to remove finished goods from the finishing cells and review pallets for accurate carton label information.

  • Consistently monitors each cell for: raw material and/or finished goods movement, daily management sign-offs, needed supplies, levels of scrap gaylords.

  • Communicates concerns, issues, and status of specific production orders with co-workers, supervisor, and Operations Manager.

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.

  • Looks for alternative means to fulfill the requirements of a production job when the requested materials are not available.

  • Verifies clerical computations against physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation or count, or investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies.

  • Receiving, inventorying, and disbursement of raw material and supplies that are consumed in the production operation.

  • Looks for alternative means to fulfill the requirements of a production job when the requested materials are not available.

  • Performs Shipping duties as required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an organized manner.

  • Strong initiative, problem solving, and resourcefulness.

  • Experience operating Powered Industrial Trucks.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, including Outlook, and the ability to learn company specialized software programs.

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

While performing the
duties of this job the employee is required to:

  • Wear hearing,foot, eye and/or other personal protective equipment while in a manufacturing setting
  • Frequently ascend and descend a height of 18 inches from the floor
  • Frequently stand for long periods, walk, stoop, bend, crouch, and kneel.
  • Frequently sit, turning head left and right to view 180 degrees behind self
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grasp, and reach for items, and use a keyboard to communicate through written means
  • Consistently push or pull objects up to 40 pounds
  • Periodically lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds

  • Vision abilities include – close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish color variations, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Medium to loud noise environment

  • Work flexible/varying schedules and hours as needed

  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines
