Job Description:

Implement and develop web applications and biomedical informatics tools to support clinical, medical education, health care, and health care research enterprise functionality. This key individual will help architect and build robust cloud solutions that directly affect our mission at DMS. This person will collaborate closely with health care providers, web publishers, faculty, marketing/communications professionals, IT staff, and team members to build robust, user-friendly, high-traffic web sites, interactive web apps, and custom application projects. The ideal candidate is hands-on and highly capable of taking initiative for designing, prototyping, implementating, and providing long term support by effectively incorporating user and stakeholder input, and handling projects from database to application layer to effective UI. The candidate should be adept with CI/CD and continuous learning methodologies and able to work across the spectrum of DevSecOps.

General Notes

The mission of the Dell Medical School (DMS) is to revolutionize how people get and stay healthy. The DevSecOps team within DMS IT supports the entire Dell Medical School and the community we serve to create useful, secure, user-friendly applications covering work being done in clinical, research, graduate and undergraduate medical educational, and community outreach domains.

Responsibilities
  • Create custom cloud-based web sites using content management systems (such as Craft) to support business needs.

  • Create custom applications with Python (or other languages) using cloud hosting.

  • Collaborate with different teams at Dell Med to create secure, reliable, scalable web solutions using a lean and agile approach.

  • Work with cloud architects on the team for managing servers and environments including account creation, server software, security, application deployment, and script creation.

  • Work with DMS IT to proactively monitor servers, storage, applications, and services for our web services and applications.

  • Manage backups and restoration/rebuilding of deployed instances, with a strong emphasis on business continuity and disaster recovery.

  • Recommend and implement hardware and software upgrades according to growth statistics and usage forecasts.

  • Act as Level 1 support for application issues and downtime.

  • Develop processes and documentation around management of IT web-related systems.

  • Create meaningful dashboards, logging, and alerting to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively.

  • Write custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and testing scenarios as needed.

  • Ensure DMS’s internal web solutions adhere to industry-standard best practices and comply with all of UT’s policies.

Required Qualifications

Relevant experience typically exhibited by a Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field and at least five years of professional developer experience. Adept with Python or other languages such as Java, Ruby, or PHP. Expertise with designing, developing, and deploying web applications using frameworks such as Django or Ruby on Rails. Experience building API applications. Comfort working with JavaScript, jQuery, and other JavaScript libraries. Awareness of data formats such as JSON, HL7, or FHIR. Expertise in responsive/mobile-first web design and strong UI/UX experience. Demonstrable familiarity with security considerations of web applications. Experience with content management systems such as Craft, Drupal, or WordPress. Knowledge of web accessibility standards. Strong experience with current development standards and tools, including version control, automated testing, issue tracking, documentation, code reviews, continuous integration, continuous deployment, and containers. Experience with QA testing procedures and developing test plans. Strong debugging skills. Experience with agile programming methods. Awareness of how to properly handle sensitive data, such as Protected Health Information (PHI), and adhere to HIPAA, FERPA, Common Rule, and other regulations. Demonstrable flexible team experience. Effective oral and written communication skills; strong ability to discuss technical issues with non-technical audiences. Demonstrable ability to manage several projects concurrently. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IAC) scripting languages. Experience with databases such as MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL. Experience with Kubernetes. Knowledge of AWS, GPC, and/or MS Azure management and deployment. Cloud certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect). Experience with HIPAA and FERPA compliance. Knowledge of managing web server software such as Apache or Nginx. Experience with Java. Familiarity with academic, biomedical, clinical, or health research. Experience with dashboard-development applications such as Tableau and MS Power BI. Experience integrating applications with R or other statistical applications, including working with R-Shiny.

Salary Range

$80,000 + depending on qualifications
