Title: Director - Compliance (Non AML), Audit USA, New York, NY)

The Audit Department is the 3rd Line of Defense and plays a key role in the internal control system of the Bank. Its mandate is to provide independent and objective assurance over the design and effectiveness of internal controls to mitigate risks and to provide advisory services designed to improve the Bank's operations.

The incumbent will have responsibility for planning, execution and reporting of audits with respect to US Compliance audits. The incumbent will act primarily as Audit Principal (AP) on Compliance related audit engagements and is responsible for overseeing audits in accordance with department standards. In addition, the Director will support the DCA and Chief Audit Executive (CAE) in determining the overall audit plan and strategy over the Compliance function in the U.S.

The successful candidate will be required to have extensive knowledge of the design and operation of internal controls related to the Compliance controls, advisory, and testing for US-based banking and broker dealer institutions. The candidate is required to have strong knowledge of the US regulatory environment and emerging risks. Knowledge of capital markets products and associated risks related to Broker Dealer activities, swap dealer coverage, Bank Operations, and/or market abuse/market manipulation will be an asset. The incumbent should be proficient at applying risk-based auditing standards, practices, techniques, processes and methodologies to the performance and review of audits. Direct experience with US regulators is a plus, but not required.

Is this role right for you? Some of your responsibilities are below:

    • Identify systemic and emerging issues and strategic changes planned/undertaken by the auditees that will impact the audit plan, including review of business/strategic plans, review and update the Risk Assessment database for entities assigned, attend periodic meetings with key management officers to understand changes and new business initiatives and review key performance indicators;
    • Lead and drive a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge;
    • Assists the US CAE and US DCA in executing the US Audit plan and assessing the effectiveness of controls;
    • Develop and maintain effective communication with stakeholders including appropriate handling of conflicts and issue resolution, including involvement as a non-voting member on appropriate committees and working groups;
    • Act as a change agent to assess, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken to address audit and regulatory issues relating to compliance or the Compliance function;
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of the business, regulatory risks and processes for assigned areas and provide effective guidance to the audit teams;
    • Ensure department standards are met on all assignments, including work paper review and approvals, issue monitoring, and reporting;
    • Coordinate work performed on behalf of the external auditors as assigned;
    • Manage the development of staff by providing direction and coaching; impart specialized skills to other audit officers through peer discussions and cooperation on integrated audits;
    • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions; and
    • Build a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team
    • Leads Audits in Compliance in US, including projects in all US offices
    • Manage the third line’s relationship with all US regulatory bodies including federal and state regulatory bodies.
    • Coordinate with global Center of Excellence (COE) for implementation of strategic Compliance audit coverage.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if:

    • At least 15 years in Compliance, Compliance Audit, Regulatory body or related experience
    • Expert knowledge of the Bank's Compliance framework, structure, programs, key regulations/regulators, and systems
    • Knowledge of auditing techniques, tools, and software
    • Strong written and verbal communication including ability to present and negotiate audit findings to management
    • Be a self-starter / takes initiative, deals well with ambiguity, and detail oriented
